The scenario
To reduce staff workload by reducing the number of false alarms and unnecessary room checks, UZ Brussel and Kepler Vision Technologies have formed a partnership.
From regular checks to certainty of alarms
Previously, the team at UZ Brussel had to regularly monitor its patients and rely on other simple but unreliable and outdated systems to detect falls in patient rooms.
These methods were not optimal, as they did not distinguish between the actual fall or, say, the bed shifting, or a pillow falling to the floor. This led to a plethora of unnecessary false alarms that were eventually not followed up by nurses.
In the summer of 2023, UZ Brussel launched a major upgrade of their monitoring system, introducing the AI-driven ‘Kepler Night Nurse’ from Kepler Vision Technologies, a fall detection and prevention system that uses a sensor in the rooms to monitor patients.
