Three things you should know about Koninka Minolta
This picture was taken in Istanbul when I signed the partner agreement with KONICA MINOLTA, INC.. Here are three things you should know about this great Japanese corporation:
1. Did you know the first picture of the earth was taken by a Minolta camera?
- NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration purchased the camera from a drugstore for $40. Corrected for inflation, it costed $408 today. That was a good deal for NASA. If you also like good deals, read on to the end of this post.
- This first picture of Earth was taken by John Glenn in 1962.
- Glenn was the first American to orbit Earth, following Yuri Gagarin’s earlier flight. Gagarin’s spacecraft did not carry a camera.
2. Did you know that intellectual property is very important to Konica Minolta?
- That is because Minolta faced a significant patent infringement lawsuit from Honeywell in the early 1990s. The resulting financial burden forced Minolta to merge with Konica in 2003.
- Today, Konica Minolta holds more than 50,000 patents. I do not know of other companies that publish an annual intellectual property report, but Konica Minolta does (https://lnkd.in/e-HmKCYH).
- As a matter of fact, we at Kepler Vision Technologies own a significant patent portfolio ourselves. We have 20 granted patents and 6 more will be awarded in 2025. For a company of our size, that is a lot. Think of us as a small kid who knows karate: The patents give our partners peace of mind in that Kepler’s software does not infringe the rights of others.
3. Did you know that Konika Minolta manufactures the Mobotix C71 Camera, the first camera to run Kepler’s software embedded?
- The Mobotix C71 / Kepler software bundle allows Konica Minolta to combat care staff shortages. Our software looks after patients in hospitals and long-term care facilities, freeing up caregivers’ time.
- The technical advantage of running our software embedded over running it on a server is that it removes the single point of failure. You no longer require a redundant server.
- The Mobotix C71 camera sells like crazy because it is bundled with our software, which is such a great deal. If you wonder if you can get as good a deal as NASA, contact Serkan Kocabey, PRINCE2, Yushi Takagi, Inoue S., Jacek Weglarz, Mark Hambly, Vaclav La Rose Kovarik or Attila Szucs.
And Serkan Kocabey, PRINCE2 thank you for letting me borrow your tie when the picture was taken!
